Lieze De Middeleir obtained her master's degree in Fine Arts from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent in 2018. Shortly afterwards, she started working as an artist and artistic youth worker at BAMM vzw, an art education organization in Flanders. This practical experience continues to form an important basis for her work as a researcher at eCO-CITY (HOGENT). Together with Griet Verschelden and Siebren Nachtergaele, Lieze is part of the PUBLIEK(en) MAKEN research team. This research project mapped out innovative practices in art and cultural mediation. As part of PUBLIEK(en) MAKEN, the research team facilitated mediation processes at various cultural centers in Flanders, including Kunsthal Gent and the Middelheim Museumin Antwerp. The research team published the article The Art of Making Public: Mapping Networks of Art Mediation in Critical Arts, which De Middeleir co-authored and for which she illustrated the concepts. In addition, the team spoke at international conferences, including the TISSA Conference and the Arts in Society Conference. Lieze is currently collaborating on the Jonge stadsmakers (Young City Makers) research project, which focuses on mutual understanding between youngsters, practitioners, and policy makers with a focus on youth citizenship. And lectures on Art and Culture Mediation in the Social Work programme at HOGENT.
